We met in college and have been dating for a little over three years. Weight has always been an issue for us and we haven't always been great influences on one another. As we see our friends settling down and having children, we're realizing that we need to make healthy lifestyle changes to make our future of having children, a reality.

Week 3

Week 2 proved to be the test of wills.  I didn't count my calories as well as I did on week 1.  Mainly, I ate out more and ate at friends a few times this week.  I made healthy choices when I went out and watched my portion sizes but felt uneasy not knowing exactly how many calories I burned.  I struggled getting to the gym but finally made it on Thursday night and felt great about it.  I made it back there on Saturday and did a morning work out on Saturday at home.  At my weigh in on Sunday, I was at 193.5 with a loss of 2.5lbs.  I am still very happy about it but know that I need to kick myself back into high gear this week.

Sarah struggled a lot this week.  She was a little disheartened by her weight loss last week and felt she should have lost more.  Early in the week, she slipped on her diet and afterwards, it seemed like she just felt she can't do it anymore.  I explained that I was still in this and would not let her take me off track.  Sarah assured me that she is not giving up but is going through a rough time.  She explained that her unsteady situation do to her job relocating and other things going on really has been weighing her down.  I think this is a snapshot of Sarah's entire struggle with weight.  It's so hard for her not to lean on food when she is down.  Together though, we're going to fight through this.  Anything worth achieving will have obstacles along the way.

Sarah just decided to weigh in and actually lost 2lbs.  She's at 300.  Next week, we will be so excited when she drops back into the two's.  Check back in to celebrate with us. -Lindsay

Week One's Reward

In Jillian Michaels's book, Winning by Losing, she talked about created weekly rewards that were not food related.  I didn't set a specific goal for week 1 except to stick with the diet we planned together.  Since I didn't give up or make excuses or splurge, I decided to reward myself by getting the biggest loser fitness program book, and purchase some songs from itunes for workouts.  I've made a kind of list in my head about things I want as weekly rewards.  I want to get a medicine ball, some heavier weights, tubing, and biggest loser workout videos.  I just have to make it to the gym three times this week to get my next reward. -Lindsay

Week Two

Week One was an overall success.  Sarah struggled with taking in enough calories.  Lindsay struggled with cravings.  However, we stuck to our plan.  We are most proud of our committment to fixing all of our meals at home, including packing lunches for work.  We each planned one day, Thursday, to eat lunch at Subway.  Our bodies had some adjustment issues but we're starting to feel the rewards of putting healthy nutrition into our bodies.
This week, our goals is to go the gym at least 3 times.  We both feel that we need to overcome our anxiety about working out in a public environment.
At our weekly weigh-in, Sarah is checking in at 302 with loss of 3lbs.  Lindsay is checking in at 196 with a loss of 6lbs.

Cravings

I've been doing really well this week and feel so powerful because of it.  Sarah and I planned all of our meals and pretty much stuck to the plan.  What I mean by pretty much is that on Monday night, Sarah couldn't eat the salmon we cooked so she took that for lunch on Tuesday.  We were supposed to make our lunch ahead of time for Tuesday but since hers was made, I decided to take a can of progresso chicken noodle that was 100calories and yogurt.  I am just proud of myself for not making excuses or sneaking in extra calories.

I guess what I have struggled with the most is thinking about food.  I get off work about an hour and a half before sarah does and I always schedule a snack during that time into my calorie intake but it never seems to satisfy me and I spend an hour hoping Sarah will get home already.  Friday was a little better because I reduced my calorie intake prior to getting off work so I could have a little bit bigger snack.

Also, I've been kinda bad about weighing myself too often.  I lost 3lbs. by Wednesday and I weighed myself again today and have lost another 3lbs.  It feels awesome but I know that my weight can vary throughout the day and throughout the week.  It was just really hard when I weighed on Wednesday and I had lost and Sarah had gained a pound and she was taking in less calories than I had.  But, I think her gained weight was because she was taking in so little, it wasn't healthy.  I think the longer we're on this plan, the more stable our diet will become.

Over doing it

On Monday and Tuesday I was so affraid of eating, that I under shot my calories.  Lindsay counted and realized I had only had about 800 calories.  Needless to say I was curled up in bed with a bad migraine and was not feeling the salmon she had prepared for dinner.

This week has been amazing how I feel (when I eat the right amount of calories).  I'm really energized.  Though calorie counting has been a big shock to me.  Every diet I've ever been on has had fruit and vegtables as unlimited, and now its like 100 calorie snack pack? or this banana?

Also on Wednesday we stopped by my parents to eat dinner and I saw Lindsay coming out of the laundry room which houses the kind of scale that they have at the Dr.'s office.  She had already lost 3Ibs.  I gained 1!  She did point out that my body was probably trying to recover from starving the past few days and I had just drank a ton of water.  It kinda made me sad.  Hopefully tomorrow is better.
